WSGR 91.3fm and WCLG 1490am are student-operated stations that service the St. Clair County Community College campus and surrounding Blue Water Area. Both stations are non-profit and located at 323 Erie Street in Port Huron, Michigan. Students enrolled in CM106A, CM106B, CM106C, and/or CM106D are the main source of staff; the remainder consists of those seeking an Associates Degree in Broadcasting Communications and members of the Radio Club.

 

Course Description for CM106A-D

 

         I.      This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to learn radio station operation. This will be accomplished by providing on-the-air experience on the college radio stations, WSGR and WCLG. The student will work at least 3 hours per week per CM106.

       II.      Course Purpose

A.     To teach the student radio station operation

B.     To give the student hands-on experience operating radio equipment

C.    To develop announcing abilities

D.    To prepare the student for entry-level employment

      III.      Course Objectives – Upon completion of the course, the student should have knowledge of:

A.     Microphone use

B.     Control board operation

C.    News reading ability

D.    Radio promotions

E.     Radio station formatting

F.     Radio station music system

A.     2 Cassette tapes

B.     Ink pen

C.    Email address – provided by student

     V.      Grading

A.     Grading is based mainly on attendance

B.     Student will receive both a midterm and final grade during the semester
